Art-A-Whirl (Fri-Sat-Sun)

Art-A-Whirl is a highly anticipated annual event that welcomes local and regional visitors to Northeast Minneapolis to see the art being made in this area and to meet the artists.

As visitors come to see the art over the three-day weekend they also experience the unique and welcoming community of Northeast Minneapolis. At least 600 painters, potters, printmakes, furniture designers, photographers, jewelers, weavers, ironworkers, glass blowers, as well as actors, musicians, jugglers, and other performers will be making the good times happen.

The Bad Plus, known for their jazzy takes on songs by Nirvana, Black Sabbath, The Pixies, David Bowie and Blondie, to name a few, take on their reinvention of Igor Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring. This Friday and Saturday at the Loring Theater. The Bad Plus consists of pianist Ethan Iverson, bassist Reid Anderson, and drummer Dave King, originating from Minneapolis, MN.

Rolling Stone magazine called their combination of jazz, pop, rock and avant garde "about as badass as highbrow gets," while The New York Times said the band is "better than anyone at mixing the sensibilities of post-'60s jazz and indie rock."

THE CARS, TONIGHT! - First Avenue Full fledged Cars Reunion, the first collaboration by the four surviving members since 1988. The new CD "Move Like This" is classic sounding CARS with it's guitars and synths, and Ric Ocaseks's robotic vocals. Sold out.
