Yuja Wang. Tonight. Ordway Center for the Performing Arts. Ordway Music Center. 8pm.

Twenty-three year old Chinese pianist Yuja Wang is widely recognized for playing that combines the spontaneity and fearless imagination of youth with the discipline and precision of a mature artist. Regularly lauded for her controlled, prodigious technique, Yuja’s command of the piano has been described as “astounding” and “superhuman,” and she has been praised for her authority over the most complex technical demands of the repertoire, the depth of her musical insight, as well as her fresh interpretations and graceful, charismatic stage presence.

Midwinter Mozart: Featuring Minnesota Orchestra, Minnesota Chorale, and soloists. 7:30pm Wed. 11am Thursday. And 8pm Friday & Saturday.

Osmo Vänskä and the Minnesota Orchestra celebrate the genius of Mozart with two weeks of all-Mozart performances starting with three distinct programs—one performed twice—in four concerts from Wednesday, January 12, to Saturday, January 15th.

The Mid-Winter Mozart series opens on Wednesday, January 12, at 7:30 p.m., with performances of Mozart concertos spotlighting Associate Principal Oboe John Snow as well as University of Minnesota Distinguished McKnight Professor of Piano Lydia Artymiw and her former student Andrew Staupe, a St. Paul native and winner of the 2006 WAMSO Young Artist Competition. Artymiw and Staupe will perform together in the Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra. The concerts culminate in a performance of Mozart’s dazzling Jupiter Symphony—his final entry in the genre.

Ozzy Osborne. Wednesday. 7:30pm. Target Center.

Grammy Award-winning English singer-songwriter Ozzy Osbourne’s career has spanned over 40 years. Osbourne initially rose to prominence as lead vocalist and part lyricist of the pioneering English heavy metal band Black Sabbath, a band whose radically different, intentionally dark, doom sound spearheaded the heavy metal genre.

In his subsequent solo career Osbourne achieved a multi-platinum status in addition to the one he had earned with Black Sabbath. These things are what led Osbourne to become known as the "Godfather of Heavy Metal". It was during his Sabbath days that, because of their dark style of music, Osbourne became known as the "Prince of Darkness.” Osbourne has over 15 tattoos, the most famous of which are the letters O-Z-Z-Y across the knuckles of his left hand. This was his first tattoo, created by himself as a teenager with a sewing needle and pencil lead.
